Robert Morris University, founded in 1921, is one of the leading universities in the Pittsburgh region and among the largest private institutions of higher learning in Pennsylvania.

More than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students from 32 states and 31 countries are enrolled at RMU. The 230-acre campus in Moon Township, located 15 minutes from Pittsburgh International Airport and 17 miles from downtown Pittsburgh, is home to more than 1,300 resident students. The Center for Adult and Continuing Education is located in the heart of the "Golden Triangle," the city's metropolitan center and the nation's seventh largest concentration of Fortune 500 corporate headquarters. The 32-acre Island Sports Center on Neville Island provides state-of-the-art athletic facilities for the University and the community.

Robert Morris University built its reputation by offering strong academic programs in traditional business fields such as accounting, finance, marketing and management. To prepare students for success in a changing and competitive workforce, the University has created programs in communications, information systems, engineering, mathematics, science, education, social sciences and nursing in the past decade. Students also have the opportunity to gain a global perspective by studying abroad.

RMU offers 30 bachelor's degree programs: the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in applied mathematics, communications, English, environmental science, media arts, and social science; the Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in media arts; the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in actuarial science, applied mathematics, applied psychology, business education, competitive intelligence systems, computer information systems, elementary education, engineering (logistics and software), environmental science, health services administration, information sciences, manufacturing engineering, nursing, organizational studies, professional communications and information systems, and social science; and the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (B.S.B.A.) in accounting, economics, finance, hospitality and tourism management, management, marketing, and sport management.

The University's 19 graduate degree programs include: the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.); the Master of Science (M.S.) in business education, communications and information systems, competitive intelligence systems, engineering management, human resource management, information security and assurance, information systems management, information technology project management, instructional leadership, Internet information systems, nonprofit management, nursing, organizational studies and taxation; the commonwealth's only state Board of Nursing-approved Doctor of Nursing Practice (D.N.P.) program for bachelor's-prepared nurses; the Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) in information systems and communications; and the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in engineering and in instructional management and leadership. In addition, teacher certification preparation programs are offered for elementary and secondary teachers as well as information technology specialists.

RMU is a teaching-centered institution, featuring small classes taught by faculty members, not teaching assistants. The University employs 157 full-time and 227 part-time faculty members, and 82 percent hold terminal degrees. The student-faculty ratio is 16:1, and the average class size is 24. Learning resources include a library containing more than 125,000 bound volumes, more than 325,000 items on microfilm and nearly 1,000 periodical subscriptions.

More than 60 clubs and organizations help students to develop leadership skills, network professionally and meet friends. Student organizations include varsity, club and intramural sports, sororities, fraternities and student government. The 23 varsity athletic programs are affiliated with NCAA Division I.
