Seton Hill University
Chartered by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1918, Seton Hill University is an innovative center for learning, offering a variety of educational opportunities to diverse populations within and beyond the Southwestern Pennsylvania region. The Universitys setting is propitious to deep reflection and study. Seton Hills beautiful 200-acre campus is located in Greensburg, PA, just 35 miles east of Pittsburgh. The thriving Greensburg Cultural district is home to theaters, museums, and the symphony. Seton Hills idyllic setting serves as a playground for students who are free to explore and participate in outdoor activities within the safety of the campus. The liberal arts institution produces graduates possessing the values and perspectives inherent in a Catholic education, capable of accomplishment and leadership in the workplace and in their communities as their education is enriched by an emphasis on the liberal arts.
Academics
Seton Hill University is at once selective and supportive. The academic
program is focused and far-reaching. Building on rich traditions, the
University is moving boldly ahead with innovative programs and learning
experiences. The University is a recognized leader in liberal arts education
for men and women of all diverse cultures and religious traditions, from
Pennsylvania and beyond. Students find the following at Seton Hill: foundations
in the liberal arts for professional study; theory actively related to
practice; and learning done on campus, enhanced by application in the
field. The Universitys aim is to graduate students who have a solid
grasp of the ideas and theories behind their major coursework, and who
know how to apply those concepts to the challenges and real life situations
they will face in the workplace. With a total enrollment of 1400 students,
small class sizes offer students individualized attention from the faculty
and give them the opportunity to express themselves freely. This one-on-one
interaction encourages development of deep discourse and debate that will
transcend academic skills and foster critical thinking.
The Programs
Graduate students choose from seven masters programs: art therapy,
special education, elementary education, business administration, marriage
and family therapy, writing popular fiction, and technologies enhanced
learning. Undergraduates choose from over 30 areas of study including
the sciences, physician assistant, business, education, and visual and
performing arts. The Adult Degree Program offers undergraduate majors
on Saturdays and evenings in accounting, business, corporate communication,
and human services. In addition, Seton Hill University hosts over 50 international
students from 20 different countries. It is the aim of the University
to do everything possible to provide each student with a complete and
fulfilling academic experience that will serve as the foundation for a
lifetime of learning.
Financial Aid
Seton Hill gives you a lot for your money. Other leading private liberal
arts colleges are priced substantially higher. Plus, Seton Hills
Financial Aid Office will help you get all the aid available to you. Significantly,
last year everyone who did apply for financial aid at Seton Hill got some.
Students can apply for state, federal, and private aid from hundreds of
sources. There are grants, loans, merit awards, need-based awards, athletic
scholarships, and more. Valedictorians are awarded $10,000 per year, and
those students who are in the top 30% of their high school class may be
eligible for the Presidential Scholarship. Seton Hill can even help you
earn pocket money through work-study employment.
The Universitys National Centers
The Universitys commitment to quality education can be seen in its
involvement with outreach programs of national and international scope.
These centers provide educational experiences and practical work-related
opportunities for students. The Universitys National Education Center
for Women in Business is ideal for students who are interested in entrepreneurial
contacts and the possibility of creating their own business opportunities.
The Center hosts speakers who challenge and encourage the students to
excel and explore the boundless possibilities that technological advances
bring to the business field. The National Catholic Center for Holocaust
Education offers education on teaching the Holocaust, particularly to
K-12 teachers. Through the Center, students and professionals take trips
to Europe and the Middle East. These trips expose students to a wide range
of cultures, traditions, religions, languages and experiences which make
them "citizens of the world while learning about the Shoah
or Holocaust.
Recreation and Athletics
Students choose from on- and off- campus activities that cover social,
academic, cultural, educational and public service supervised by the Universitys
staff. At Seton Hill, indoor sports facilities include a gymnasium, plus
an indoor pool, jacuzzi, and sauna. Outdoor facilities include tennis
courts, fields for soccer and softball, and a three-mile fitness trail
that circles the campus. This academic year Seton Hill breaks ground for
a new Student Fitness and Activity complex, complete with state-of-the-art
venues for team sports, space for intramurals and other on-campus events
— and cool places to hang out. Seton Hill offers basketball, cross
country, equestrian, golf, soccer, tennis, and volleyball for women and
basketball, cross country, equestrian, golf, soccer, and tennis for men.
Athletic scholarships are available to qualified students. In addition,
the natural splendor of the Laurel Highlands and the city of Pittsburgh
are both easily accessible, providing a number of recreational activities.
