Atlanta Metropolitan College

Atlanta Metropolitan College offers its students a unique campus atmosphere. The college is located within the state of Georgia's largest city, lovely Atlanta. This metropolitan area has approximately five million people, a thriving economy, and an international outlook with all of the cultural resources of a major city. The college offers the best of both worlds. Although the campus is within view of the city, it is situated within 68 expansive acres of tree-filled hills and beautifully landscaped land. Five major buildings house classrooms, administrative offices and student common areas.

Atlanta Metropolitan College is a two-year, non-residential unit of the University System of Georgia. It provides courses and programs aimed at enriching the lives of its students, enabling them to become productive contributors to society. Established as Atlanta Junior College in 1974, the school underwent a name change in July 1988 and became Atlanta Metropolitan College. Today, the college continues its legacy of high academic standards. With its accessibility and relevant educational programs, Atlanta Metropolitan College offers an outstanding value for students interested in earning an associate's degree, or for students preparing to move on to a four-year institution. This commuter campus provides an affordable, high-quality education to approximately 2,000 culturally diverse students. The college also attracts students from a number of foreign countries, adding to the rich ethnic and cultural atmosphere of the campus.

Atlanta Metropolitan College offers a wide range of classes during days, nights, and weekends to accommodate the large percentage of students who are employed while attending the college. To maintain its commitment to its students, AMC offers a variety of academic support services, including its Learning Resource Center, Business Laboratory, Computer Science Laboratory, Tutorial Center, Language Center, and Student Support Services.

The college offers more than 40 courses of study in the fields of business, humanities and fine arts, natural science, mathematics, and social science. Accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Atlanta Metropolitan College awards the Associate of Art and Associate of Science Degrees through its transfer program track. Students also may pursue an Associate of Applied Science Degree through the institution's career program track.

Students find their niche participating in dozens of approved honorary, professional and social student clubs and organizations, including Student Government Association, Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society, Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE), College Choir, the International Students Organization, and the student newspaper. In addition, Atlanta Metropolitan College has a strong record in intercollegiate athletics and holds four championships in the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association Conference for men's basketball.
