Georgia State University
Georgia State University, located in the heart of downtown Atlanta,
offers students an opportunity to experience the best of a city
environment while receiving a real-world education.
Georgia State combines traditional university education with opportunities
found only in a growing international city. The university's location
allows students to learn both in the classroom and in the surrounding
city where high-profile companies provide hands-on experience. Georgia
State's Alpharetta Center in the Brookside office park and the Gwinnett
Center in Lawrenceville offer students convenient suburban locations
and graduate courses in business and education.
Founded in 1913, Georgia State is the state's second largest university.
Its roughly 33,000 students represent all of Georgia's 159 counties,
all 50 states, and 142 countries. The student body includes 48.3
% minorities and almost 1,700 international students. Ninety percent
of students are residents of Georgia, and nearly 89 % of incoming
freshmen are HOPE Scholars.
Students choose from 52 degree programs in 250 fields of study
offered through six units: the College of Arts and Sciences, the
J. Mack Robinson College of Business, the College of Education,
the College of Health and Human Sciences, the College of Law, and
the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. From public policy and
African-American studies to biology and health sciences, Georgia
State offers full- and part-time study in a wide variety of fields
in day, evening, and weekend classes.
Students who choose to live on campus have two options for housing.
The Georgia State University Village is a residential complex where
students select from four- and six-bedroom suites with private bathrooms,
a common living room, and a kitchen complete with a microwave and
dishwasher.
The University Lofts offer apartments for graduate students, married
students, students with children, and International students attending
Georgia State. With a total occupancy of 460, the loft style apartments
feature open floor plans, sealed concrete flooring, and exposed
ductwork.
Students have a lot of options for getting involved, from an award-winning
100,000-watt radio station (WRAS 88.5 FM) and concert committees
to student government. A new Student Recreation Center offers four-levels
and 161,000 square feet featuring four basketball courts, aerobic/martial
arts studios, an indoor climbing wall, and lap and leisure pools,
plus many other features.

Georgia State's academic reputation as a leading urban research
institution rises every year. The school annually receives more
than $40 million in research awards and grants for instruction
and public service.

More than 96 percent of the graduates of the College of Education
pass the Georgia Teacher Certification Test, and 15 of the last
20 National Counselors of the Year graduated from Georgia State.

Georgia State's College of Health and Human Sciences has a
100 percent placement rate for graduates.

The J. Mack Robinson College of Business was the only school
in the state ranked by Forbes magazine in the top 10
for return on investment. The part-time MBA program has been
ranked one of the top 10 in the nation by U.S. News &
World Report, and the Risk Management/Insurance program
is ranked No. 2 in the nation. This marks the seventh consecutive
year that the College has been recognized by the magazine's
annual survey. Among public universities, Robinson College of
Business ranked first nationally and was the only university
from the South in the top 10.

Georgia State's international outreach includes: 25 study-abroad
programs; business programs that extend to Poland, the Republic
of Georgia, France, Egypt, Norway, Germany and the Pacific Rim;
collaborative education projects with South Africa, Cote d'Ivoire,
and the European Teacher Education Network; tax reform assistance
from the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies in the Russian
Federation; and students sharing ideas on environmental issues
via computer with students from Russia, Australia, and Spain
in the Global Thinking Project.

The College of Law, the only ABA-accredited law school in Georgia
offering both part-time and full-time legal programs, was listed
as one of the "Top 20 most wired" law schools in the
nation by National Jurist magazine.

Georgia State's biology department has the highest National
Institute of Health funding rank in the country. There are about
1,000 biology majors and more pre-med students than any other
program in the state.

Georgia State's newest state-of-the-art teaching facility,
the Helen M. Aderhold Learning Center, is in its final building
stages. The center houses 44 classrooms and two 200-seat lecture
halls, provides 2,000 computer ports, and sports a cyber café.

WRAS, Georgia State's 100,000-watt voice is the most powerful
student-run radio station in the United States.

Georgia State has one of the safest campuses in the state and
one of the largest private police forces in Georgia. Georgia
State's police department is the only major university force
in the state to receive accreditation from the Georgia Association
of Chiefs of Police.

Georgia State's innovative Touch the Earth program brings outdoor
recreation to novices and the highly skilled alike in activities
ranging from backpacking, rock climbing, sailing, kayaking,
rafting, and water-skiing to out-of-state snow-skiing and diving
trips.

More than 79 percent of all Georgia State alumni live and work
in Georgia.
