Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology
Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology (BFIT), located in Boston, is a private, co-educational institution founded in 1908. BFIT prepares men and women for rewarding technical careers and leadership roles that bring personal growth and economic enrichment. BFIT's small student body, highly specialized hands-on education, and dedicated faculty contribute to a unique and individualized learning environment.
Academic Programs
BFIT primarily offers Associate Degree programs, a Bachelors Degree in Automotive Technology, and several certificate programs. BFIT is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
BFIT has a partnership with the Boston Architectural Center, providing students from the Architectural Technologyprogram an easy transfer of most credits towards further study. In addition, BFIT has an articulation agreement with Northeastern University that allows graduates of the engineering technology programs to transfer credits from BFIT as they continue towards a four-year degree. Examples of the unique programs BFIT has developed with industry leaders to meet employment demand include Marine Technology, Opticianry, and Pharmacy Technology.
Faculty
At BFIT eighty percent of the faculty are full time, and this means that students receive plenty of individual attention and have faculty members available to answer questions and build advising relationships that foster success. Most faculty members have worked or are working in the fields they teach.
Student Services and Activities
The Academic Support Center at BFIT offers an inviting central location that is staffed on a consistent basis throughout the week. The Center is open from 7:30am until 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Tutoring is available for all courses taught at Franklin along with overall study skills assistance. Faculty tutors, peer tutors, and a director staff the Center. The walk-in and user friendly format of the Center make it a popular destination for students and faculty. The Center strives to create a learning environment where students are supportive of each other regardless of skill level and where faculty can supplement instruction outside the classroom.
Our students can also ready themselves for the future with part time employment and internships coordinated through the Office of Career and Placement Services.
The Office of Student Services oversees a variety of student-managed activities, which offer students opportunities to become involved with programs that enhance their professional and social lives, including Student Government and the Intramural Sports program. Students attending BFIT are encouraged to join the Student Government Association (SGA). The SGA is active in organizing events such as the holiday toy drive, walk-a-thons, year-end carnivals, and other activities. SGA members also develop ideas and discuss concerns with Director of Student Life to enhance the BFIT community for all students. All students will be able to take part in a variety of athletic competitions throughout the year. There will be individual and team tournaments in basketball, billiards, flag football, and more!
Housing
Many students at Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology are commuters; however, BFIT offers three housing options for students which allow students to live in Boston, just a short distance form campus, at a significantly lower cost than renting an apartment in the area. The choices include housing on the campus of Wentworth Institute of Technology, the Green Hall Dormitory in Cambridge, or the Berkeley Residence, located across the street form BFIT on Berkeley Street.
