College Profile:
Brescia University
Brescia University is a private, Catholic university located in Owensboro, KY. Founded in 1950, Brescia provides a value centered education for its students. With over 5000 graduates and a present student body of 840 students, Brescia continues to educate men and women with an emphasis on a set of values that touches every aspect of their lives.
From the moment you walk onto the campus, you will experience the friendly, helpful spirit that is, and has been, a hallmark of the University.
As a Brescia student, you will become a part of a small and closely-knit community. You will be encouraged to pursue your academic and career goals with the guidance of your academic advisor. Your major will be firmly grounded in the liberal arts.
Having a liberal arts education, you will be prepared to think and to reason, to solve problems and to analyze information, to scrutinize situations and to make sound decisions.
Faculty and staff take a personal interest in you and in your education. It is not unusual to see students and faculty sitting together in the Quad, sharing conversation around a table in the cafeteria, or standing in the hall discussing assignments.
Classes at Brescia are small enough that you can ask questions comfortably. The size of the classes will also encourage you to participate in class discussion. Yet the classes are large enough to provide the academic competition that will challenge you. Everything Brescia does is aimed at providing you an avenue to succeed.
Brescia offers a wide variety of co-curricular activities that are designed to keep you busy and involved. The activities are as diverse as is the student body. Some take place indoors, some outdoors, some on campus and others off campus. The activities are designed to complement your coursework and contribute to your development as a responsible adult.
The Brescia Bearcats and the Lady Bearcats represent the University in the NAIA Division I level. Brescia's Lady Bearcats field teams in volleyball, basketball, softball, soccer, tennis, and golf. The Bearcats play basketball, golf, soccer, and baseball. You can also participate in intramural sports ranging from softball and tennis to indoor soccer, pool, and darts.
Full-time students are invited, based on academic achievement, to become members of the Honors Program. As members, the students will engage in special projects, participate in seminars, and conduct research. Over the four-year cycle, students will enroll in six of the eight one-hour honors courses offered. Successful participation in the program will be recognized at the Senior Honors Convocation and at graduation.
For the most part, the students at Brescia govern themselves through the Student Government. This organization provides many opportunities for students to develop leadership skills and ability. Students also sit on the committees that affect student life, such as Publications Advisory Board, Curriculum Committee, Student Welfare Committee, and Food Service Committee.
One of the best ways to get the most out of your college experience is to live on campus—to be where most of the action takes place. Brescia offers you several different housing options. There are the traditional residence halls, a couple of renovated houses that are adjacent to the campus, and the student apartment complexes. All residence facilities are wired for Internet access. Each is also equipped with laundry facilities. Meals are served in the Campus Center Dining Hall. Several meal plans are available.
We make enrolling as easy as possible. Upon inquiring about one of our programs, you will be assigned a personal admissions counselor who will assist you every step of the way. Your counselor will make you aware of deadlines that you need to meet, will help you with all the required paperwork, and will be available to answer all your questions.
What begins in the admissions office is carried over to your academic program. Your academic advisor will meet with you each time you register to help you pick out the appropriate classes and make sure that you are working toward your academic goal. Academic advisors and faculty members are concerned and care about the success of the students with whom they come into contact. Our low student-faculty ratio of 14:1 ensures that you have easy access to your teachers and that you will receive the best possible education.
