This is a very special field! You are licensed to be able to touch people! To be able to touch their hair, skin and nails…and to be able to make their day!
There are so many things a person can choose to do with a Cosmetology license! Interesting work in a wide range of occupations:

And this is just a partial list of what is available!
In today's society so many jobs are being outsourced and job 'insecurity' is a big concern for everyone. Being told that your job in no longer needed because they are now having someone 'overseas' doing it is a worry for a lot of people. But this is something that a Cosmetologist does not have to worry about, as you cannot outsource a service! And, to make it even better...there's never been a layoff either!
If you love working with others and find that helping them to succeed is rewarding and fulfilling, then this is the right job for you. If you enjoy helping others to look good and feel good about themselves, then this is a great profession in which to be working!
One of the things that attracts men and women to this profession is the ability to control the size of their income. Unlike the professions where you have to wait for someone else to offer you a yearly raise...the people who choose to become a stylist receive almost instant gratification for their work. They can not only watch the size of their weekly paycheck grow, but by building their clientele, helping others to look and feel better, they stay busy and increase the size of their yearly income too.
The wage opportunities meet or exceed those of many college graduates.
The amount of education needed to take your test for your license differs from state to state. Ohio and Indiana requires 1500 hours and Kentucky requires 1800 hours of education in a Cosmetology school. During that schooling you will have classroom time, practice on mannequin time and will practice on clients that come in to the school.
Schools can be accredited or non-accredited. Accredited does not mean more qualified, but it does mean, though, that the school has met certain organizational requirements so that they may have the right to offer grants and federal assistance to their students. All schools must meet the requirements and standards of their particular State Board of Cosmetology. So look for the school that you feel best meets your needs and future goals.
