College Profile:
Frostburg State University

Overview:

Small classes, dedicated faculty and individualized attention allow Frostburg State University students to explore new possibilities and find direction. Situated in the beautiful mountains of Western Maryland, FSU is a comprehensive regional university offering strong programs in liberal arts and sciences, business, education, environmental studies and the arts.

Academics:

Frostburg offers over 40 undergraduate majors – some traditional, some unique – in performance and visual arts, humanities, natural and social sciences, business, physical and teacher education.

At Frostburg you’ll experience:

  • Engaging in- and out-of-classroom experiences (internships are available in almost every major).
  • Small classes for individual attention.
  • Award-winning faculty who are focused on teaching.
  • Advanced facilities (including a new science center and an impressive performing arts center) and the latest technology – which undergraduate students actually get to use.
  • Wireless and fiber optics networks (and a 24/7 student computer lab).
  • Nationally (or in some cases, internationally) accredited programs in education, business, social work and recreation.
  • Study abroad opportunities.
  • Learning communities for freshmen, where they study a handful of special themed courses with the same small group of students who share similar interests. Lifelong friendships often start here.

Student Life:

  • Frostburg offers plenty of activities  – including concerts from local and top name bands, national speakers, comedians and big events.
  • The Lane University Center features a coffee bar, food court and game room, as well as get-away trips to New York City, ski resorts, whitewater rafting spots, museums, shopping outlets and more.
  • Chances are you’ll find something that interests you in our 90+ clubs and organizations. If you don’t, we encourage you to start your own.
  • 20 NCAA Division III athletic teams.
  • Frostburg students can easily participate in outdoor pursuits such as skiing, biking, or camping, and the metropolitan areas of Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. are just over two hours away!

Residential Living:

  • Residence halls with single and double room occupancy available, as well as an independent on-campus apartment complex.
  • Residence halls feature free high-speed internet, e-mail, cable TV, laundry, as well as free (and legal) in-room downloading of music and movies.
  • If you live on campus, bring your car and park it for free.

After Graduation:

  • FSU’s costs are competitive with other public institutions, so you won’t leave college with a mountain of debt.
  • Many of Frostburg’s alumni have made it to the top – or beyond. Among our alumni are CEOs and presidents of major corporations and nonprofit organizations, an Emmy-winning television writer and producer, a Tony and Emmy-winning Broadway actress and an astronaut. That number also includes doctors, lawyers, teachers, artists, scientists, entrepreneurs and hundreds of others who credit their experience at Frostburg with helping them find their passion in life, whatever that happens to be.
