Lawrence Technological University
College Profile

Lawrence Technological University is a private, personally focused university providing students a rigorous, high-quality education – an education that pays off. Most Lawrence Tech students are employed within a month of graduating, and according to a recent Bloomberg Businessweek survey, the earning power of a Lawrence Tech bachelor's degree ranks in the highest 30 percent of all U.S. universities and is tops in the metro Detroit area. This means that Lawrence Tech grads tend to earn more during their careers than other college graduates.

Located in Southfield, Lawrence Tech offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs in Colleges of Architecture and Design, Arts and Sciences, Engineering, and Management. The University is taking a leadership role in the revitalization of our state's – and nation's – economy, and features numerous new degrees and fast-track certificate programs in the emerging fields of sustainability, alternative energy, defense, the life sciences, and more.

Recognizing that leadership is a critical skill needed for succeeding in today's competitive workforce, Lawrence Tech features a comprehensive Leadership Program, integrated into all bachelor's degrees. At every level of their academic careers, students are exposed to leadership development experiences that nurture critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills. Not only are these attributes demanded by all employers, but they also can help students become agents of positive change in their own communities. Students explore a wide array of topics such as ethics, diversity, conflict resolution, problem solving, and civic engagement. Students graduate with a degree as well as a Leadership Portfolio, which can further enhance their resumes and help them stand out in the global environment.

For highly qualified students who want to be challenged even further, Lawrence Tech offers an Honors Program, as well as Quest, a co-curricular experiential learning program that allows students to go above and beyond their studies and pursue their interests on a deeper level.

Lawrence Tech has a proud history of making quality education accessible to everyone, regardless of job schedule or financial situation. Traditional students, busy professionals, or workers in transition can benefit from convenient class schedules, with courses available days, evenings, weekends, and online. Programs offered online include information technology, building information modeling and computer visualization, architecture, business administration, educational technology, engineering management, architectural management, nonprofit management and leadership, project management, and workplace technology.

Technological is Our Middle Name

Throughout their studies, students are exposed to the University's signature "theory and practice" approach to learning, small class sizes, and faculty with current industry knowledge. Michigan's first wireless laptop campus, Lawrence Tech provides all undergrads with high-end personal computers customized with all needed software – a unique benefit valued up to $15,000.

The University's high-tech 102-acre campus features a full range of academic, housing, and recreational amenities, as well as state-of-the-art learning facilities. Students have access to architectural and design studios; fabrication labs; wind tunnel; wood, metal, and model shops; chemistry, biology, and tissue labs; structural testing center; 4 x 4 chassis dynamometer; alternative energy, mechanical, and electrical labs; thermal dynamics lab; graphics lab; and the Denso Instructional Technology Lab. Lawrence Tech also owns a nearby Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home that is used as a study center.

In addition to exceptional exposure in the classroom, students can participate in innovative and applied research partnerships with industry and government that offer them remarkable hands-on experience. Co-ops, part-time work, internships, student projects, competitions, and participation in professional organizations provide additional opportunities to network with industry leaders.

A Growing Student Life

In addition to exceptional educational opportunities, Lawrence Tech offers an exciting – and growing – student life. More than 60 student clubs and organizations, including fraternities, sororities, honor societies, and student chapters of professional groups sponsor a variety of activities.

Recreational facilities include the Don Ridler Field House, which features a fitness track, gymnasium, racquetball courts, game room, saunas, and weight and conditioning room. Varsity, intramural, and club sports teams are active throughout the year.

The University has two residence halls, featuring fully furnished, one and two bedroom apartment-style suites that include full-size kitchens. Each dorm accommodates two to four students. Single rooms are also available. All utilities, wireless Internet access, basic cable TV, and individual telephone lines and voicemail are included.

From campus life to the classroom to the real world, Lawrence Tech prepares students with the skills they need to succeed – as students, as professionals, and especially, as leaders.
