Public Liberal Arts Colleges

Why choose a public liberal arts college?

  • Faculty are dedicated to teaching undergraduates
  • Classes are small and students receive personal attention and mentoring
  • Students work with professors, not graduate assistants
  • Leadership and co-curricular opportunities abound
  • Emphasis is on civic engagement and service learning

As a student, what is unique about attending a public liberal arts institution?

  • Students participate in semester-long exchanges at member campuses and study abroad
  • Students publish their research in the online COPLAC undergraduate research journal
  • Students present their work at regional undergraduate research conferences

There are a total of 26 COPLAC colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. Most campuses are located in small towns and cities, while others are located in attractive rural areas. Admissions officers at member institutions can help you to make an informed decision about your choice of college.

If you would like to learn more about the public liberal arts experience, where small class size, close faculty-student interaction, an innovative curriculum, and a commitment to civic engagement are core to the educational mission, please contact the campus of your choice.

Campus Exchange/Study Away
Have you ever considered spending a semester or an academic year as an exchange student at another college or university? The COPLAC campus exchange program allows you to live, study, and explore in another part of the U.S. or Canada while retaining the best features of a small to medium-sized public liberal arts experience. Break out of your comfort zone and experience the diversity of regional cultures at another COPLAC institution in one of 24 states and one Canadian province.

In addition, fourteen COPLAC institutions belong to the National Student Exchange (NSE). If your home campus and your target campus are members of NSE, you are permitted to study away for a semester or year at your home institution's tuition and fees!
