College Profile:
Tri-State University

Experience the new face of Tri-State University! At TSU in Angola, we are riding a wave of positive change like none in our history. To enhance our top-notch education, the university launched a voyage into the future six years ago, with the goal of investing $90 million into improvements by 2009.

The results give TSU students the edge in a rapidly changing technology world. A wireless environment, an expanded fiber optic network, and shared multimedia access to resources for teaching (SMART) classrooms, along with a stunning campus facelift and upgraded student housing, place you, tomorrow's leaders, in a setting like no other.

Consider our beautiful setting. Located in the center of northeast Indiana's rolling green hills and sparkling glacial lakes, TSU invites students to enter its 400-acre campus by way of a gracious new boulevard. The new Trine Welcome Center provides an information hub from which to begin a tour of our campus.

Our $15.5 million University Center and Center for Online Resources has opened up 70,000 square feet as a central activity area. A movie theater, sports and wellness center, library, rock climbing wall, and various eateries make the center the place to meet or eat. It also houses a global workplace, IPOD filling station, Center for Digital Excellence, and multipurpose and digital media group training spaces as part of our technology focus.

We continue to make dormitory-style living a thing of the past with our new student apartment buildings. Complete with private suites and restroom areas, the units include a recreation area with pool table, air hockey table, and big-screen TV. Common areas also offer fireplaces and bistro areas.

TSU will preserve the historic Sniff Hall in the renovated C.W. Sponsel Administration Center, also set to open in fall, 2007. Original tuck pointing has been restored to the brick exterior, and the inside will provide new office spaces and a beautiful conference room.

But a world of improvements means nothing without a quality education. TSU is a 123-year-old institution serving 1,100 students at its main Angola campus. Our expert faculty members prepare work-ready graduates through innovative programs and a 13-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio.

The power of a TSU diploma
Ninety percent of our students find work in their fields within six months of graduation, making us a national leader in job placement. Starting salaries also rank among the highest in every major category in the nation. We have been listed for three consecutive years in U.S. News & World Report among colleges with graduates carrying the least amount of debt.

Unique areas of study
TSU offers a golf management program, with an 18-hole championship golf course which is open to all students; a strong engineering program, which includes a dual, five-year bachelor and master degree for civil and mechanical engineers; two entire schools devoted to education and business; one of the country's leading forensic science programs; and a Foundry Education Foundation-accredited cast metals program which has earned TSU the reputation as one of the nation's top institutions in foundry education.

We offer 21 sports, with the recent addition of men's and women's lacrosse. A domed indoor track and stadium and new tennis facility are planned for the future.

Financial Aid
TSU awarded over $7 million in institutional aid to students in 2005-2006. Over 95 percent of students receive some kind of merit or need-based financial assistance. The average award is $18,300, including all sources.

Student Life
TSU has more than 60 student organizations, clubs, activities, and national Greek organizations, including Christian Campus House, the Multicultural Student Organization, and Habitat for Humanity.

New programs
We have added entrepreneurship to our list of majors. Students in the major take a general education core and business core to build aptitude in the areas of venture finance, tax and legal issues for small business, venture planning, market research, and leadership. Between the junior and senior year, an internship in an entrepreneurial venture allows business owners-to-be to try out their new skills.

In order to offer a new music minor, we have added a director of music to lead the wind ensemble, pep bands and jazz band, and teach music history and theory. The bands will give students with music backgrounds an outlet for performing, whether or not they intend to pursue the minor.
