College Profile:
Philadelphia University

Philadelphia University is a private, coeducational, professionally focused university. Founded in 1884, the University specializes in preparing students for architecture and design, business, science and health, and textiles and materials technology.

The University’s approach to education - a combination of classroom theory, hands-on experience, and one-on-one attention - sets the University apart. Students and professors get to know one another outside the classroom on field trips, in design studios, and through community service. Our professors also work on the front lines of their disciplines - they’re engaged in everything from managing their own architectural firms to pursuing pioneering research in areas like molecular modeling and development of textile-based medical devices. The direct benefit to students: Day in and day out, your professors bring the latest knowl edge into the classroom.

Campus
Located 15 minutes northwest of Center City, Philadelphia, adjacent to Fairmount Park, the largest park system in America. In a residential corner of the City, the campus is an active, lively place where students balance rigorous academics with social events, 12 varsity and 10 intramural sports, and many other activities. About half of all students and 80 percent of freshmen live in one of five campus residence halls.

Undergraduate Degree Programs
Degree programs are accredited by major educational and professional associations. Programs are available in the following Schools: Architecture & Design, Business Administration, Science & Health, and Textiles & Materials Technology.

Co-ops and Internships

Benefits of co-ops include hands-on application of skills, important first steps in career development, networking opportunities and a strong resume credential. Students receive credit toward their degree working in either full- or part time positions. Recent co-op placements include: QVC, Ralph Lauren Childrenswear, Mellon Bank, Nicole Miller, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte & Touche, and many more.

Study Abroad
Philadelphia University students can study architecture or fashion in Italy, design in Australia, textiles in Scotland and Senegal, or international business in Tokyo and South America, to name just a few options, and apply coursework directly to their major.

Student Body
2,300 undergraduates and 500 graduate students from 44 states and 40 countries make up the student body. The average class size is 18 students with a student:faculty ration of 13:1. They are bright - and want to be architects, doctors, designers, urban planners, engineers, entrepreneurs, and more.

Admission
Admission is competitive. Students are admitted based on their high school record, results of the SAT or the ACT, and their potential to contribute to the Philadelphia University community.

Financial Aid
More than 90 percent of full-time undergraduates receive financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants, loans, and campus jobs. We believe that every academically qualified student should have access to a Philadelphia University education regardless of financial resources. Merit-based scholarships are available and renewable for each year of full-time enrollment. Athletic scholarships are also offered.
