CAREER PROGRAMS AVAILABLE AT THE
EASTWICK COLLEGE SYSTEM OF SCHOOLS
MEDICAL
Originally specializing in teaching secretarial and business skills in the late 1960s, Eastwick Colleges' Ramsey, Hackensack, and Nutley campuses have grown and diversified over the years, building on their strength in the medical field. Their medical facilities have been updated to include newly constructed clinical labs, examination rooms, and the most modern medical diagnostic equipment. The curricula have also been expanded to include Nursing, Medical Assisting, Cardiovascular Technician, Ultrasound Technician, Pharmacy Technician, Medical Compliance Management, and Medical Coding and Billing.
Eastwick Colleges teaches Licensed Practical Nursing through affiliations with the Bergen Regional Medical Center in Paramus, Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, and Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen. HoHoKus Schools was the first career college in the State to be approved to teach nursing by the New Jersey Board of Nursing, and the American Council on Education recognizes 55 college credits for completion of our medical courses. This allows HoHoKus graduates to transfer their credits to more than 1500 colleges affiliated with the American Council on Education. This means that credits from HoHoKus Schools will carry the weight students need when transferring to other colleges or pursuing higher education.
The key to Eastwick Colleges' success in training and placing students is how partnerships are leveraged within the local communities. We maintain symbiotic relationships between the employers and the students we serve. For example, HoHoKus Schools' medical department has effectively built strategic alliances with over 60 well-known hospitals and medical centers across the tri-state area – the likes of which include Memorial Sloan-Kettering, Robert Wood Johnson University, and Good Samaritan. These key relationships consistently build HoHoKus Schools' pipeline of students year after year, and also provide a high rate of placement into medical careers with these partner organizations through various externship programs.
Eastwick Colleges/HoHoKus Schools is approved for national certification by the American Medical Technologists (AMT), whereas, in years past, only graduates of traditional colleges were permitted to join AMT's registry of Medical Assistants. HoHoKus Schools was the first non-degree granting school in the nation to receive this prestigious honor. The school is also affiliated with the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). During their course of studies, Medical Assistants will earn certificates in OSHA, Uricult, EKG, HIPAA, and CPR/Safety First Aid (adult, infant, and child). The Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) also recognizes HoHoKus Schools, allowing our graduates to sit immediately for the Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) registry exams.
Teaching affiliations with several leading healthcare organizations have also been established. Our partnership with Bergen Regional Medical Center, the largest hospital in New Jersey, has been a model for other institutions of higher education to follow. In 1999, HoHoKus Schools began operating a Certified Nurse Aide campus in Paramus at the Bergen Regional Medical Center. The specialized Certified Nurse Aide training program is taught in conjunction with the hospital's Division of Long Term Care Services. This course provides all the skills necessary to obtain both the State certification and licensing required for a Nurse Aide and Home Health Aide.
Day and Evening classes are available with programs ranging from 6 weeks to 20 months.
