Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC)
at Fort Valley State University and Albany State University

Welcome to FVSU ROTC.

Army ROTC AtlantaGreetings:

Thank you for your interest in Army ROTC.  Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC): it's the college elective that can add an important dimension to your education by preparing you to handle the varied demands and heavy competition of life-after graduation. ROTC does this by training you to lead. Fort Valley State University partners with Albany State University and Darton College to offer an invaluable leadership training opportunity!

Enroll in the program as a college freshman, and you'll get a good head start on this training, which will benefit you all your life. You can take Army ROTC along with your other courses and attend classes a few hours a week. Through these weekly classes, you'll gain executive skills and leadership abilities that will give you an edge over other graduates.

As an Army ROTC Cadet, you'll receive money while still in college if you meet certain eligibility requirements. Considering the cost of college, you know what a difference this money can make. Army ROTC has always been one of America's leading sources of scholarships, making awards to thousands of the highest caliber students each year. A student who goes to college on an Army ROTC scholarship is sure to make the best out of his or her years at school. Army ROTC offers four, three, and two year scholarships that pay tuition and required fees. Four-year Scholarship winners that attend Fort Valley State University receive free room and board. These scholarships can be worth as much as $47,000 or more. They're awarded on merit -- like academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and personal interviews. Scholarship winners receive a tax-free stipend of $300-$500 for each academic month plus an allowance of more than $1200 for books and other educational items. If you're a non-scholarship student, you can still receive the stipend and book allowance as a contracted cadet during your last two years. If you're selected to receive a scholarship, you will have a commitment to the Army after completing the program. You can fulfill it by either serving part time in the Army National Guard or Army Reserve, or full time on active duty.

You'll have plenty of opportunities to practice leadership skills learned in the classroom and to reinforce your self-confidence. Orienteering, leadership reaction courses and field training exercises are a few of the many activities in which you can discover your hidden strengths and develop them to the fullest. Upon graduation, you'll be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, and serve in the Active Army, Army National Guard, or Army Reserves.

No matter what career you pursue later on- business, nursing, law,  engineering, you name it - your experience in college Army ROTC will prove a valuable asset. Employers look for men and women with the ability to think clearly, solve problems as they arise, and lead others in making businesses more productive. These and many other management skills are basic to ROTC training. Leadership training...extra cash for college...lifetime skills...camaraderie...the chance to travel...the attributes and professional values of officership...these benefits and more are all part of why you should consider enrolling in the smartest college course you can take - Army ROTC.

I wish you the best and hope you will make Army ROTC a part of your college career. For more information about our ROTC Program, you can call 478-825-6340/6341 or email MAJ Terrence Henry at henryt@fvsu.edu. I look forward to seeing you as a part of the Wildcat Battalion!!
