Train For A Career In Carpentry
Atlanta Carpenter's JATC offers a comprehensive program which will guide you on the path to becoming a skilled journeyman Carpenter. We offer a program which includes on-the-job training as well as membership in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local Union 225.
The objective of the Atlanta Carpenters' JATC is to provide an education in the fields of commercial and industrial carpentry. We strive to provide education on new technologies through classroom instruction in addition to on-the-job training.
General Information:

Program Length: 8,000 on-the-job-training hours (approximately 4 years) or 2,000 on-the-job-training hours for specializes classifications.

Advanced Credit for Previous Experience: Upon entering the Apprenticeship program, a Diagnostic Examination is administered to give applicants credit for previous experience. A second Diagnostic Examination is given after you complete the Apprenticeship program.

Tuition: WIA eligible, GI Bill, Hope Grant and PELL, or by the Atlanta Carpenters' JATC training fund. The Apprentice must pay for books and tools.

On-the-Job Training (OJT): In addition to attending classes apprentices will work for companies that agree to pay contract minimum wages as outlined in the contract with our contractor/employers plus benefits. Work experience is part of your education.

Periods of Apprenticeship: There are 8 periods of Apprenticeship. For every 1,000 hours of OJT (approximately six months) or specializes classifications, 250 hours of OJT (approximately three months, an Apprentice will be advanced to the next level (period) of Apprenticeship.

Signatory Contractors: The Atlanta Carpenters' JATC has over 150 companies which have agreed to support this training program. You will work and get paid directly by individual companies on various job sites in the Atlanta Metropolitan area through referrals by Carpenters' Local Union 225. Steady employment is not guaranteed.

Classes: Training classes are held one or three evenings per week from 5 PM until 10 PM and on Saturday from 7 AM until 5:00 PM at our Training Center. The classes run on a typical college quarter.

United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America: Local Union 225 is our affiliated Union. All Members and Contractors support our program financially. As an Apprentice, you will become a member of Carpenters' Local 225 and will start receiving benefits.
Requirements For Entry Into The Apprenticeship Program
- At least 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED (we provide instruction)
- Pass drug screen
- Complete an interview with a school official.
