music institute in AtlantaWhether you’re a guitarist, drummer, bassist, or recording engineer, the Atlanta Institute of Music is exactly what you’re looking for! We are a state certified, nationally accredited institution offering Title IV funding for those who qualify. Our approach offers you an intense, hands-on, collaborative learning experience not found anywhere else. You’ll learn directly from our instructors who are seasoned industry professionals—people who’ve actually worked in the business—along with well-rounded curriculum in classroom settings, concert settings, studio settings, private instruction, multi-media lab stations, state-of-the-art hardware, cutting-edge software, and Grammy-winning guest clinicians.

Plus, the Atlanta Institute of Music is the only school in the south that provides the unique opportunity for daily collaboration between its music students and recording students: guitar, bass, and drum students can track their music projects with the help of recording students anytime they wish; likewise, recording students have an ever-growing population of music students to choose from!

OUR MISSION

If you’re a guitar, bass, or drum student, you’ll not only learn through classroom studies, private lessons, and clinics, you’ll also gain valuable real-world experience with your fellow classmates every evening as you perform together as a band on our concert stage. You’ll learn a variety of concepts, techniques, and solos in the styles rock, jazz, country, funk, metal, fusion, Latin, classical, and many more! Your well-rounded education also includes classes in music business and marketing, offering indispensable insight for the successful musician. And upon graduation, you’ll enter the professional music world armed with the ability to confidently write, record, and/or tour with the very best musicians in the world. We'll even help you find work!

And it’s no different for recording students: AIM is an Avid Certified Training Center, and some of the best, brightest, and highest certified instructors anywhere in the world teach right here! You’ll work side by side with our teachers every day—acquiring a wealth of knowledge as your new recording, producing, and engineering trade becomes second nature. Not only will you receive your Pro Tools Certification, you'll also learn to use other software packages like Reason and Ableton Live. You’ll discover the secrets to getting the perfect mix from any recording; you’ll gain experience in location audio recording and live sound recording; you’ll learn what only the top industry professionals know about sound design for video games; and you’ll find out once and for all how to break into the business—and you’ll do it in a hands-on environment. We’re not "just in the books"...get ready to get your hands dirty! Whatever your field of interest, the Atlanta Institute of Music will help you step into the professional world of music and entertainment!

OUR FACULTY

AIM faculty is comprised of industry professionals whose education and work experience as performing artists, recording artists, touring artists, instructors, producers, and engineers have prepared them to teach our demanding curriculum.

Members of our guitar department faculty have recorded and/or toured with Mike Stern, Jimmy Haslip, John Patitucci, Joe Lovano, Darmon Meader, John Pisano, Andy Summers, Willie Akins, Chuck Red, Rob McConnel, Sid Jacobs, Jack Wilkins, Bruce Saunders, Randy Johnston, Phil DeGreg, Steve Davis, Shelly Berg, Terreon Gully, Chuck Owen, Frank Vignola, Tom Kennedy, and Anthony Wilson.

Members of our bass department faculty have recorded and/or toured with Whitney Houston, Cissy Houston, Naughty By Nature, Don Harper and the New Jersey Mass Choir, Candi Staton, John Pizzarelli, Gary U.S. Bonds, Emil Richards & the Contra Band, Johnny Highland, and Scott Henderson.

Members of our drum department faculty have recorded and/or toured with TLC, Monica, Dave Weckl, Adam Nitti, The Drifters, The Platters, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, B.J. Thomas, Bo Diddley, Texas, Joi, and Rehab.

Members of our recording department have recorded and/or worked with Delta, AT&T, Droid Phone, Cartoon Network, Steak n Shake, Coca-Cola, Quikrete, Verizon, Samsung, Lions Gate, NFL, Mountain Dew Tour, Panama Tourism, Toyota, Aretha Franklin, TLC, Babyface, Toni Braxton, Silk, Joan Baez, Sugarland, Outkast, Scarface, Akon, Fergie, Gwen Stefani, Kenny Rogers, Jully Black, Project Z, and Ciara.

MONEY MATTERS

Pell Grants are available for eligible applicants for amounts up to $5,550 per year. Pell Grant award amounts are prorated based on the number of hours for which as student is enrolled. Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants (SEOG) are also available for students pursuing a first bachelors degree who show exceptional financial need. SEOG grants can reach unto $4,000 per year.

AIM participates in all Federal Direct Loan Programs which allow students and/or parents to borrow money at low interest rates, no collateral, and generally no co-signer. Federal Direct Student Loans do not need to be repaid until the student graduates, withdraws, or drops to less-than-half-time status.

AIM offers achievement-based scholarships twice each year per academic program (guitar, bass, drums, and recording). Eligibility requirements include full-time enrollment and exceptional academic standing. If awarded, these requirements must be maintained by the student throughout the entire year to continue the scholarship's benefits.

The Atlanta Institute of Music is an approved Veteran training facility; eligible students may be able to receive their Montgomery GI Bill, Post-9/11 Bill, or Survivors' and Dependents' Education Benefits to help fund their education at AIM. VA students must file their application before attending AIM.
