Carlow University
Located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

A University is Born: Carlow University Offers a Degree Above

In the Fall of 2004, in recognition of its distinguished faculty and commitment to innovative, diverse and competitive programs on the undergraduate and graduate level, Carlow College proudly began a new life as "Carlow University."

What makes Carlow University distinct is its primary commitment to teaching; its mission; its welcoming, value-centered environment; its diverse student population; its small size and personal approach; and its focus on women.

In honoring the University's rich tradition of embracing students of all ethnic and religious traditions, Carlow also remains one of the most diverse campus communities in Pennsylvania. Minority students comprise 22% of its student population. And while Carlow is proud of its Catholic heritage (approximately half of Carlow's students are Catholic), the University welcomes and serves students of all faiths and spiritual traditions.

More than 2,200 Carlow students are enrolled in over 50 undergraduate academic programs and 16 graduate programs.

Among its undergraduate offerings, Carlow offers programs that are hard to find in the region:

  • Art Education
  • Art/Ceramics
  • Art/Painting and Drawing
  • Autopsy Specialist
  • Corporate Communication
  • Creative and Professional Writing
  • Forensic Accounting
  • Perfusion Technology
  • Public Policy and Leadership
  • Scientific and Medical Marketing
  • Social Work

Why Carlow?
The top reasons students choose Carlow include:

A challenging and supportive academic environment…small, safe campus tucked on a hillside…one of America's biggest college towns…networking, internship, employment, cultural, and entertainment opportunities…small, interactive classes averaging 15-20 students… over 50 academic programs, ranging from the liberal arts to unique offerings, including autopsy specialist and perfusion technology programs…private, Catholic tradition… exceptional instruction from professors, not teaching assistants…electronic portfolio for personal and professional development…cross-registration and study abroad…success, leadership, growth, achievement, and happiness…a place where everyone knows your name.

Carlow students benefit from an exceptional Honors Program and opportunities to participate in more than 30 active student organizations. In addition, Carlow's student athletes -- consistently recognized conference-wide as top scholars -- compete in five NAIA women's varsity sports: basketball, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball.
