Cincinnati State
Building Futures on a Firm Foundation
For the longest time people called Cincinnati State the region’s best-kept secret.
Not anymore.
Cincinnati State’s enrollment has grown by more than 23 percent over the past five years. In no small part, that’s because high school graduates – along with people like President Obama and Gov. John Kasich – are tuning in to the unique benefits of community colleges such as Cincinnati State.
We serve the needs of many types of students. We do it cost-effectively. And we do it in a way that fits the schedules of our students. For example:
Get Career Ready
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
- You can earn an associate’s degree in two years, for about half the cost of tuition at a public four-year college or university.
- In most programs, we have agreements in place that guarantee that all your credits will transfer fully toward a bachelor’s degree at the University of Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky University, Xavier University and other institutions.
- In six months to two years you can be career ready for a good job or a career in a field you genuinely enjoy. We offer more than 100 associate degree and certificate programs. The choices are wide. Nursing. Surveying. Environmental engineering technologies. Auto mechanics. Business/marketing technologies. Public safety. Horticulture. That’s just scratching the surface.
We are one of the leading providers of nurses, EMTs, and health care technicians in Greater Cincinnati. We have one of the best culinary schools in the Midwest. We own an airport in Harrison. Our multi-media and audio-video production programs have such strong reputations that we’re enrolling students who already have advanced degrees from other institutions.
- We have one of the largest co-op programs among two-year colleges in the United States. Participating students can not only check out potential career fields, they usually earn while they learn. And a good fit in a co-op job often leads to a permanent job after graduation.
Location, Location, Location
In recent years Cincinnati State has been trying hard to reach out to students wherever they are in the region.
We’ve negotiated tuition reciprocity agreements that give Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana residents in-state tuition rates for most programs.
In addition to aviation maintenance, we offer a variety of courses at our Harrison campus, and at our Workforce Development Center in Evendale and at smaller sites in Lower Price Hill and elsewhere. And in autumn, 2012 we will open a new campus in downtown Middletown, to serve students in the region’s fast-growing northern suburbs.
Practical nursing training and other courses are also offered at the Great Oaks network of suburban campuses, to make them more convenient to students throughout the region.
Flexible Schedules
We know our students have busy lives, so our Distance Learning classes, sometimes known as online education, provide great flexibility. Cincinnati State has one of the most robust online programs in the region. We have been approved to offer seven associate degree programs entirely online (Accounting Technology, Business Management Technology, Associate of Arts, Computer Programming and Database Management, Health Information Management and Public Safety Technology). We also offer three certificate programs entirely online (accounting, paralegal and Health Information Technology).
In some cases we offer blended courses, in which students meet periodically in traditional classroom settings but do the bulk of their work online.
Whatever a student’s learning style, or need, we try to meet it.
Our statistics suggest we’re doing it right.
- According to our most recent survey, about 90 percent of our graduates were either employed or continuing their education within a year of receiving their diploma.
- More than half of those with jobs landed them before they graduated – thanks largely, it appears, to our co-op program.
- In a survey, 30 percent of our employed graduates reported annual earnings of $40,000 or more.
