Concordia University Chicago At A Glance
Founded in 1864, we are one of the 10 college and university members of the Concordia University System, affiliated with The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod.
Campus: Our 40-are campus is located in River Forest, Illinois, approximately 10 miles west of downtown Chicago. Approximately 60 percent of undergraduates live on campus in six residential halls, complete with cable TV and individual Internet hookups, phone numbers and voice-mailboxes for each student.
Special facilities include the new Walter and Maxine Christopher Center for Learning and Leadership; the Concordia Curriculum Library and Idea Center; our highly regarded Early Childhood; several computer labs (one is open 24 hours a day); the Center for Social Research in the Church; Klinck Memorial Library with 142,000 volumes, and more than 480,000microforms, including ERIC documents (the library is open 88 hours per week); an indoor swimming pool; the Ferguson Art Gallery; and the Human Performance Laboratory.
Accreditation: Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs; the National Association for Schools of Music; National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education; North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Enrollment: 1,100 undergraduates and 2,500 graduate students from 40 states and a dozen countries. About 50 percent of our students are Lutheran.
Student-to-faculty ratio is 17:1.
Average class size is 20.
Student services include academic, career, personal and spiritual counseling. Peer tutoring through the learning assistance program is available for students seeking assistance with study skills, math and writing. Career services workshops coach students in employment interviews, résumé writing and career planning.
