Douglas J has developed its niche by creating a learning environment that emulates a true salon setting. The student body services over 300 guests per day, so an education at Douglas J means hands-on learning. You will actually works with the guests as if you were already a professional in the Salon/Spa Industry.

Douglas J's unique learning atmosphere encourages personal and professional growth, creativity, and a sense of teamwork, making an education at Douglas J the foundation for a bright and successful career.

Esthiology Esthiology
This 600-hour program incorporates beauty and wellness concepts in a comprehensive curriculum featuring facials, full body waxing, body treatments and make-up. Learn specialized techniques to purify, balance and renew the skin. Through demonstrations, lectures and hands-on experience, you will learn the professional and technical skills necessary for success. As a full-time student, this program will take approximately 4 months to complete; part-time will take approximately 5 months. Upon completion of this extensive hands-on training, you will have the foundation to begin your professional career in the Spa Salon Industry. Esthetician, Spa Therapist, Make-up Artist, Educator, Salon Owner -- there are no limits to your career opportunities.
Cosmetology Cosmetology
In this 1500-hour program, you will learn basic fundamentals and the latest techniques in hair cutting, coloring, styling, skin care, nail care, and make-up. Through demonstrations, lectures and hands-on experience, you will learn the professional and technical skills necessary for success. As a full-time student this curriculum will take approximately 10 months to complete; part-time will take approximately 14 months. After this rigorous hands-on training, you will have the foundation to begin your professional career -- hairstylist, color technician, make-up artist, educator, salon owner....your opportunities are endless!

SalonGetting Started
If the salon industry is right for you then Douglas J Aveda Institute is the right place to begin your education. Here is what you need to do to get started:

  • Have an informational interview with an Admissions Representative
  • Complete an Admissions Form
  • Submit a letter of intent
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from an employer, high school counselor or teacher, or the leader of a volunteer or special group with which the applicant has had an affiliation.
  • Submit a copy of high school diploma, high school transcripts or GED
