Galveston College opened its doors in September 1967 as a comprehensive community college located on Galveston Island, just 50 miles south of Houston, Texas. The College serves an ethnically diverse population of approximately 2,200 students each semester. With a full-time staff and faculty of over 150 employees and nearly 90 reserve faculty members, Galveston College has proven to be a progressive, dynamic institution of higher education known for its partnerships with businesses and organizations and its commitment to provide a quality learning environment that is student-focused. Its programs have consistently gained local, state, and national acclaim in areas that include health occupations programs, workforce development initiatives, NJCAA athletics, innovative fundraising, culinary arts, and special student services. The College began its 40th years fiscally sound and strongly supported by local citizens who have come to recognize Galveston College as an integral part of the growth and prosperity for the community.

GALVESTON COLLEGE ATHLETICS:
Galveston College Whitecaps are a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Presently, the Whitecaps compete at the Division I level in Women’s Volleyball, Women’s Softball, and Men’s Baseball.
As a Division I institution, we are allowed to offer fully-funded scholarships to students. Academically, our institution offers university-parallel curriculum that is designed for transferring our students to the university level. Our student/athlete transfer rate to universities or 4-year colleges is 100% for those individuals completing two years of eligibility and graduating from Galveston College.
