Lawrence Technological University is a private, accredited university focused on providing superior education through cutting-edge technology, small class sizes, and innovative programs. With 75 years experience in educating successful engineers, architects, scientists, and managers, Lawrence Tech is committed to providing students the latest advancements in technology. The University offers more than 60 associate, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs in Colleges of Architecture and Design, Arts and Sciences, Engineering, and Management. Michigan's first university to offer students a wireless laptop campus, Lawrence Tech provides powerful, custom-configured laptops to all undergraduates, and is one of Intel's "Top 50 Unwired Campuses."
Theory and Practice
Lawrence Tech is involved in a number of innovative applied research partnerships with industry and government that offer students, even as undergraduates, remarkable hands-on experience solving real-world problems. Co-op, part-time work, internships, student projects, and participation in professional organizations provide opportunities to network with industry leaders.
As educational partners with DTE Energy, Lawrence Tech students assess and study the operation of the first and largest hydrogen technology park of its type in the world, a pilot project developed with support from the U.S. Department of Energy.
Student engineering teams design, build, and race Baja- and Formula-style vehicles. They have won the Tour de Sol with their hybrid-electric diesel sedan that topped 80 mpg. Each year students also compete in steel bridge building and assembling, designing zero energy homes, and in airplane design, robotics, and concrete canoe competitions. Lawrence Tech also was chosen by the U.S. Department of Energy to be one of only 20 universities in the world to compete in the international 2007 Solar Decathlon.
The A. Alfred Taubman Student Services Center provides a convenient one-stop center for all student services, but also serves as a "living laboratory" of the latest green and energy-efficient building technologies. Students can study its geothermal wells; bioswale; water recycling system; its exterior skin, designed to reduce heat loss and maximize daylight without succumbing to excessive heat gain; and its multi-layer "green" roof, planted with sedum, a drought-resistant groundcover.
The Center for Innovative Materials Research is a state-of-the-art laboratory for the research, development, and testing of composite materials for defense and infrastructure applications. Lawrence Tech helped build the experimental "bridge with a brain" in Southfield, the world's first highway bridge reinforced with pre-stressed carbon-fiber rods. Sensors in the bridge monitor the performance of the carbon fiber, predicted to at least double the life of the bridge. This research has led the State of Michigan to certify Lawrence Tech as a Center of Excellence for Sustainable Infrastructure and Structural Testing.
Lawrence Tech's Automotive Engineering Institute provides students the opportunity to conduct sponsored research on a unique 4 x 4 vehicle chassis dynamometer, which measures vehicle performance in many areas.
The University's Lear Entrepreneurial Center teaches engineering students how to create, promote, and bring to market products and services.
The Global Engineering Program arranges for Lawrence Tech engineering students to work and study abroad.
Architecture students have the opportunity to explore community-based urban design at the University's Detroit Studio. They can also choose the Paris Summer Study Abroad Program.
Your Professor Will Know Your Name
Many of Lawrence Tech'sfaculty work in professional fields in addition to teaching, thus providing students important real-world exposure. Classes are small, especially for juniors and seniors. Lawrence Tech's student-to-faculty ratio is 13:1. Most classes average 19 students or less and all classes and labs are taught by faculty.
Campus Life
Lawrence Tech's modern 102-acre campus in Southfield,
Michigan, provides students afull range of academic, housing, and recreational facilities. Approximately 600 students live in two residence halls, and more than 50 student clubs andorganizations meet the interests of a diverse student body. These include intramural and club sports, sororities, fraternities, religious organizations, campus publications, student government, and honor and professional societies.
Financial Aid Is Available
Approximately 70 percent of Lawrence Tech students receive some form of financial assistance, which includes both scholastic- and need-based scholarships. Through various private, state, and federal programs, financial aid totals nearly $32 million annually.
Quality and Convenience
