Founded in 1884, Middle Georgia College is a public residential college located in Cochran, Georgia, a city of 5,000 people located about 40 miles south of Macon. The college is situated on 170 acres in this rural community. Sixty acres are developed with campus buildings and more than 100 acres are dedicated to woodlands and facilities for athletics and recreation.
The Dublin Center, MGC's commuter campus, is located 30 miles to the east of the main residential campus in Cochran. The Georgia Aviation campus is located 20 miles away in Eastman and offers several aviation programs and a residence hall.
Middle Georgia College's long standing mission has been to offer quality academic programs for career preparation and for transfer to four-year institutions. The college offers some 50 associate degree programs designed for transfer and a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Management and a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in Early Childhood & Special Education. Popular majors include aviation, arts and humanities, business, criminal justice, education, engineering, natural sciences, nursing, occupational therapy, and political science.
Some 3,500 students attend MGC. They come primarily from Georgia but 2 percent are from 18 states and 9 countries. MGC boasts a diverse student body with 44 percent minority enrollment. There are approximately 1200 students living in the residence halls.
MGC offers students a diverse campus life experience, rich with intramurals, student activities, campus clubs and organizations. Varsity sports include baseball, softball, basketball, and soccer. New residence halls offer students suite-style living. The Sanford Café offers students a quiet place to study, utilize wireless internet, or take a coffee break. The MGC Wellness Center offers a wide range of equipment, an indoor walking track, and an aerobics room.
