North Lake College
Member of the Dallas County Community College District in Dallas, Texas

North Lake College sits on 276 wooded acres in the northwest corner of Dallas County, a high-growth area between Dallas and Ft. Worth - Irving/Las Colinas, which combines a hundred-year old established community with a dynamic urban center. Las Colinas is a well-known master-planned corporate and residential community that is home to Fortune 500 companies, the Dallas Cowboys and many small and large businesses. Some of the larger companies who have their headquarters in Las Colinas are Exxon/Mobil, Boy Scouts of America, TIG Insurance and NOKIA of the Americas. To the west of Irving/Las Colinas is the DFW International Airport.

The Campus
With an innovative architectural design enhanced by the natural beauty of the location, the campus offers an educational retreat for students. North Lake was created as part of the Dallas County Community College District in 1977. It is a public community college with an open-door admission policy. The college includes twelve buildings on the main campus with satellite campuses in downtown Irving, the South Irving Center, and the DFW Education Center next to the DFW airport.

Diverse Student Population
North Lake serves a student population of approximately 9,000 credit students and 5,000 continuing education students per semester. The students represent the diversity found in the community. Most students reside in Texas, but the college has students from 22 states and 42 countries represented in the student population.

North Lake offers a full curriculum of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) for students to improve their English language skills. North Lake also has computer and electronics courses taught in both English and Spanish.

Student Activities and Recreation
North Lake has over 25 student clubs and organizations. Every year, there are social and cultural events on campus that include festivals, guest speakers, art exhibits, theatre productions and athletics. Men may participate in the basketball and baseball teams and women in volleyball and soccer. Work-out facilities, a full gym, and an olympic-class natatorium are available year-round for recreation.

Transfer or Degree
North Lake offers academic courses, technical programs, and continuing education for a degree, career or personal development. Students can receive an Associate of Arts and Sciences or Associate of Applied Science degree in over 24 areas of study or earn a Certificate of Completion in a chosen field and enter the workforce as a skilled employee after one or two years of study. Students planning to transfer to a four-year institution are encouraged to enroll in the "core" academic curriculum of 48 credit hours. The core includes basic freshman and sophomore level courses that will transfer to any Texas public college or university.

Transfer students from North Lake enjoy a high rate of success in four-year institutions. Scholarships are available for students who maintain a high GPA at North Lake from area public and private universities.

Construction Program
The DFW Education Center is an educational facility developed through a partnership between the college and the Construction Education Foundation. The 60,000-sq. ft. building includes classrooms and laboratories for both management and skill-based education for the construction industry. The facility has been recognized throughout the United States as an exemplary model for providing construction-oriented college programs.
