Point Park University is a private, independent, four-year institution in downtown Pittsburgh. The college enrolls over 3,500 full- and part-time students in more than 50 majors and concentrations offered by its three schools.
Founded in 1960, Point Park University is known for providing its students with an education that combines the liberal arts with career education.
The nationally known The Conservatory of Performing Arts awards bachelor's degrees in applied arts, cinema and digital arts, dance, dance pedagogy, film and video production, and theater arts.
The School of Arts and Sciences offers bachelor's degrees in a number of majors that include advertising and public relations, applied history, behavioral sciences, biological sciences, biotechnology, broadcast, criminal justice, education (early childhood, elementary and secondary), engineering technology (civil, electrical and mechanical), English, environmental health science and protection, global cultural studies, human resources management, intelligence and national security journalism, photography, photojournalism, political science and psychology.
The School of Business honors bachelor's degrees in accounting, business management, information technology, public administration, and sport, arts and entertainment management.
Learning is an interactive process at Point Park where the average class size is between 15 and 20 students. All courses are taught by experienced full-time faculty, augmented by practitioners who bring workplace knowledge into the classroom.
College facilities include a state-of-the-art television studio at the University Center, engineering technology, science and computer labs, biotechnology lab, black-and-white and color photo labs, a Learning Resource Center, dance studios and a radio station.
Conservatory majors gain practical and performance experience at the landmark Pittsburgh Playhouse of Point Park University. The University is also constructing a new dance building featuring four dance studios and a convertible performance space, which will open in August, 2007.
More than 700 students reside in the University's residence halls. These include Pioneer Suites and Conestoga Suites, two new residence halls opened in fall, 2006.
