What is Army ROTC?
Army ROTC is a program of leadership and military skills training. It prepares RU students for officer responsibilities in the active Army, Army Reserve, or Army National Guard following graduation.
How does the program work?
Rutgers Army ROTC Cadets are fulltime students who pursue the academic major of their choice. Army ROTC consists of one Military Science course per semester that focuses on developing leadership skills accompanied by one leadership lab per week that gives Cadets the chance to put those skills into action. Army ROTC offers physical fitness training five days a week (one attendance per week is expected of freshmen students). There are also a number of optional training opportunities and groups for those who want to challenge themselves to additional training and competition.
What are the Financial benefits of Army ROTC?
There are still Scholarships available for incoming freshmen and continuing sophomore students!! Scholarships cover full tuition, mandatory fees, and book expenses. Additionally, there is a monthy stipend for scholarship students and contracted Cadets. The stipend is currently $300 a month for freshmen and $500 for seniors. Contact the scholarship officer for information about how to apply. Additional benefits are available in conjunction with the New Jersey National Guard.
Am I committed to join the Army or go to basic training?
No. There is no basic training requirement for the ROTC program. Additionally, you can try out the program for two years without any obligation to serve in the Army after graduation. Juniors who enter the ROTC advanced course typically contract and become eligible for a monthly stipend.
