The Savannah College of Art and Design was founded in Savannah, Ga., in 1978 with a curriculum designed to provide an excellent arts education and effective career preparation for students. Today, with three locations as well as online programs, the college continues to adhere to this mission, attracting students from all 50 states and from more than 90 countries.
SCAD exists to prepare talented students for professional careers, emphasizing learning through individual attention in a positively oriented university environment. The goal of the college is to nurture and cultivate the unique qualities of each student through an interesting curriculum, in an inspiring environment, under the leadership of involved professors. Class size is small, allowing each student the opportunity to receive individual attention. Faculty members have distinguished backgrounds in their fields.
The Savannah College of Art and Design is a private, nonprofit institution accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097; telephone number 404.679.4501) to award bachelor's and master's degrees. The college offers Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master of Architecture, Master of Arts, Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Fine Arts and Master of Urban Design degrees, as well as undergraduate and graduate certificates. The five-year professional M.Arch. degree is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board.
Degrees are offered in advertising design, animation, architectural history, architecture, art history, arts administration, broadcast design and motion graphics, cinema studies, commercial photography, design management, digital photography, documentary photography, dramatic writing, fashion, fibers, film and television, furniture design, graphic design, historic preservation, illustration, illustration design, industrial design, interactive design and game development, interior design, metals and jewelry, painting, performing arts, photography, printmaking, production design, professional writing, sculpture, sequential art, sound design, teaching, urban design and visual effects.
SCAD-Atlanta is strictly state-of-the-art, offering world-class facilities in a world-class city. Striking in every detail of its design, décor and functionality, the main SCAD-Atlanta facility is located in Atlanta's burgeoning Midtown. Adjacent to the Woodruff Arts Center, SCAD's sculpture studio is one of the finest in the Southeast. SCAD-Atlanta facilities also include ample classroom and exhibition space, well-equipped computer labs, library, photography darkrooms, printmaking studios, dining hall, fitness center, swimming pool and residence halls.
SCAD-Savannah offers a full university experience in one of the largest and most renowned National Historic Landmark districts in the United States. Since its opening in 1979, the college has grown to occupy approximately 2 million square feet in nearly 60 facilities throughout Savannah's historic and Victorian districts.
The Savannah College of Art and Design offers degree programs, certificate programs and individual courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels through SCAD-eLearning. Students have the flexibility to further their education through an online delivery method to suit their location, schedule and preference. All courses are developed and taught by SCAD faculty and are offered for academic credit under the authority and accreditation of the college.
