Saint Vincent College Opens $39 Million State-of-the-Art Science Pavilion

Catholic,Benedictine, liberal arts college in Latrobe, PennsylvaniaThe opening of the first phase of the new $39 million Sis and Herman Dupré Science Pavilion this fall marks the latest in a series of major campus improvements at Saint Vincent College during the past ten years which have enhanced the national reputation of this Catholic, Benedictine, liberal arts college in Latrobe.

Nearly $75 million in capital development projects have been completed on the scenic 200-acre campus which provides one of the top facilities for serious study and productive extracurricular activity in the United States. In addition to the state-of-the art "green" Science Pavilion which boasts modern laboratories, a planetarium with the latest digital technology and the Frank Luparello Lecture Hall with 3-D television and a glass-walled atrium, the campus is proud of the Fred M. Rogers Center which opened in 2008 and the hundreds of lectures, conferences and special events it has hosted during the past two years.

Other recent improvements include the renovation and expansion of the Robert S. Carey Student Center, renovation of the athletics fields and the addition of a new synthetic turf field, construction of Chuck Noll Field now home to the Bearcat football squad (and the Pittsburgh Steelers during summer training camp), and improvements to the Latimer Library, St. Benedict Hall residence, Rooney Hall residence, and many others projects which benefit the safety, comfort and convenience of nearly 2,000 students who reside on campus.

Brother Norman W. Hipps, O.S.B., a well respected professor and administrator, became the seventeenth president of Saint Vincent College in July. He heads the four-year, coeducational, Catholic, liberal arts and sciences college sponsored by the Benedictine Monks of Saint Vincent Archabbey, the first Benedictine foundation in the United States, founded in 1846.

A diverse student population hails from 26 U.S. states/territories and 12 foreign countries. The College's quality educational programs have earned national recognition, most recently by U.S. News and World Report (First Tier of National Liberal Arts Colleges) and Forbes business magazine (America's Best Colleges).

Saint Vincent College's approach to education is rooted in a core curriculum that provides all students with a broad-based education which provides a general body of knowledge in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and mathematics, an interdisciplinary view of that knowledge base, and the skills to increase that general body of knowledge throughout their lives.

Saint Vincent takes special pride in its more than 12,000 alumni who live in all 50 states and in 28 foreign countries. They serve society in the fields of business management, education, finance, medicine, religion, law, government, sales, engineering, computer technology and many others.
