The University of Houston-Victoria
The University of Houston-Victoria, located in the heart of the Coastal Bend region of Texas, is a growing university of more than 4,100 students that offers more than 60 bachelor's and master's degree programs and concentrations in the schools of Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, Education & Human Development, and Nursing. It is one of four universities in the UH System and the only one outside of the Houston metro area.
Founded as an upper-level university in 1973, UHV expanded in fall 2010 to admit its first underclassmen and began an exciting new chapter in the history of higher education in Texas. The university enrollment has grown 58 percent in the past five years.
UHV also offers upper-level, face-to-face classes at two University of Houston System teaching centers in Fort Bend County, in addition to its home campus in Victoria, Texas, and online classes that students can take from anywhere. UHV's Degree in Three was the first three-year bachelor's degree available at a Texas public university.
Affordability
Taking classes at UHV can save students up to $7,376 a year on the cost of a bachelor's degree compared with other state universities and up to $18,956 a year compared with other private universities in Texas. In fact, UHV is rated one of the most affordable public universities in Texas. And to help students cover the cost of education, UHV offers scholarships, grants and loans. The Jaguar Pledge is another financial aid opportunity that awaits new Texas freshmen coming to the university from outside the Victoria region.*
Students also can save money and start their careers faster through the Degree in Three, or Dn3, program, the first three-year bachelor's degree program offered by a Texas public university. Students can save up to $14,000 in living expenses by graduating early, and even more if they select an option to lock in tuition and fees.
*The Jaguar Pledge is not available to students from Victoria, Calhoun, DeWitt and Lavaca counties and portions of Gonzales, Jackson and Refugio counties.
Excellence
Along with accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, UHV schools hold accreditation by some of the top credentialing organizations in the world. Some of our accreditations include:
- School of Business Administration – AACSB International − The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business
- School of Nursing – Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education
- School of Education & Human Development – Texas Education Agency; Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs; recognized by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council.

Safety & Convenience
UHV is located in Victoria, Texas, a safe, small town of 62,000 people who welcome college students. The campus is two hours or less from Austin, Houston, San Antonio and Corpus Christi, and a half hour from the nearest beach.
It's far enough away from home to let students establish their independence, but close enough for students to reach family and friends on holidays and special occasions.
Underclassmen make their home at Jaguar Hall, a former hotel that underwent extensive redesign and renovation to meet the needs of the modern college student. Another residence hall is planned to open in fall 2013.
Personal Attention
UHV strives to offer small class sizes that let professors provide personal attention, and staff members are always ready to assist students with any problems. The Letting Education Achieve Dreams program provides mentors to walk students through the admissions, enrollment and financial aid processes. Mentors from the university and community continue to work with students throughout their academic careers to help them succeed.
UHV Jaguars
Since UHV entered the world of college athletics in 2007-2008, the Jaguars baseball and softball teams have been competitive in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. UHV has fielded three conference championship teams, earned national rankings in baseball and softball and produced several All-American athletes. The Jaguars athletic program expanded in fall 2010 to include men's and women's golf and soccer teams, which also fielded competitive teams during their inaugural seasons.
