The University of Houston-Victoria
The University of Houston-Victoria, located in the heart of the Coastal Bend region of Texas, is a growing university of about 4,000 students that offers more than 50 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs and concentrations in the schools of Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, Education & Human Development, and Nursing. It is one of four universities in the UH system, and the only one outside of the Houston metro area.
Founded as an upper-level university in 1973, legislation signed into law on June 19, 2009, will allow UHV to admit its FIRST 200 freshmen and sophomores in the fall of 2010 and begin an exciting new chapter in the history of higher education in Texas.
UHV also offers upper-level, face-to-face classes at two University of Houston teaching centers in Fort Bend County, in addition to its home campus in Victoria, and online classes that students can take from anywhere. UHV’s Degree in Three is the only three-year bachelor’s degree available at a Texas public university.
| UHV provides students with a quality university education from exceptional faculty at a great value. The university offers a unique combination of affordability, excellence, safety, convenience and personal attention. |
Affordability
Taking classes at UHV can save students $12,000 off the cost of a bachelor’s degree compared with other major state universities. In fact, UHV is rated one of the most affordable public universities in Texas. UHV also gives out almost $15 million each year in scholarships, loans, grants and work study opportunities.
When students join the FIRST 200, many will qualify for the JAGUAR PLEDGE*, This pledge guarantees that at least 50 percent of a student’s tuition and fees will be covered when he enrolls in at least six UHV credit hours per semester during the 2010-11 school year. If a student takes 15 hours a semester next year at UHV, for example, he will save at least $2,800 in tuition and fees.
Students also can save money and start their careers faster through the Degree in Three, or Dn3, program, the only three-year bachelor’s degree program offered by a Texas public university. Students can save an estimated $14,000 in living expenses by graduating early, and $1,400 off the cost of their degree through an option to lock in tuition and fees.
*The Jaguar Pledge is a package of scholarships, grants and employment opportunities for new Texas underclassmen taking face-to-face freshman- and sophomore-level classes in Victoria. The package is not available to students from Victoria, Calhoun, De Witt and Lavaca counties and portions of Gonzales, Jackson and Refugio counties.
Excellence
Along with accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, UHV schools hold accreditation by some of the top credentialing organizations in the world. Some of our accreditations include:
- School of Business Administration – AACSB International − The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business
- School of Nursing – Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education
- School of Education & Human Development – Texas Education Agency; certification candidate, Texas Education Accreditation Council

Safety & Convenience
UHV is located in Victoria, Texas, a safe, small town of 62,000 people who welcome college students. The campus is only two hours from Austin, Houston, San Antonio and Corpus Christi, and a half hour away from the nearest beach.
It’s far enough away from home to let students establish their independence, but close enough so they can go home on the weekends.
Freshmen and sophomores in the FIRST 200 will live in Jaguar Hall, a former hotel now undergoing a million-dollar renovation to meet the needs of the modern college student.
Personal Attention
UHV strives to offer small class sizes that let professors provide personal attention, and staff members are always ready to assist student with any problems. The Letting Education Achieve Dreams program provides mentors to walk students through the admissions, enrollment and financial aid processes. Mentors continue to work with students throughout their academic careers to help them succeed.

UHV Jaguars
UHV entered the world of college athletics in 2008 when the Jaguars baseball and softball teams began competing in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Since then, UHV has fielded two conference championship teams, earned national rankings in softball and produced its first All-American athletes.
The program is expanding in the fall to include men’s and women’s golf and soccer teams.
