Fashion Design
Fashion design students are encouraged to experiment and innovate while keeping market demands in mind. Wade College offers the latest technology for fashion design to prepare students for industry. Facilities include single-stitch sewing machines and multi-thread sergers, industry-standard pattern drafting tables, a variety of standard and custom-made dress forms, and steam irons. The college’s graphics lab features work stations with color laser printers and scanners, software such as Photoshop and Illustrator, and online access to fashion resources.
Interior Design
Interior design students develop analytical and reasoning skills as well as the ability to conceptualize, develop, and present designs. The concentration in interior design includes studio instruction on computer-aided drafting, space planning, textiles, materials and systems, and design of interior spaces. Interior design students are introduced to design history, construction and finishing materials and technology, furnishings, lighting, building codes, and professional practices. Students also communicate design information in freehand and perspective drawings as well as renderings.
Graphic Design
The concentration in graphic design encourages creativity while emphasizing strong technical and presentational skills. Students gain a background in design history and theory and then may experiment and develop their own design approaches. The concentration in graphic design includes design history, theory, and current graphic design practices and technology. Students learn to design advertising campaigns, logos, compact disc and other packaging, posters, publications, web page layout, and more. Graphic design students also learn about the printing process and produce material for their portfolios.
Merchandise Marketing
The concentration in merchandise marketing gives students an understanding of how information and innovation are seen in the context of business—how one commodity can impact another. Students will gain information, will develop their skills continuously, and will be made aware of the effects of business practices within the global marketplace. Merchandising students will be trained in analytical skills in order to build a competitive advantage via knowledge of products and services within both domestic and international environments.
Merchandise Marketing involves the marketing and distribution of goods and services including hard goods such as home furnishings, toys or consumer products, or soft goods such as apparel, accessories, cosmetics and fragrance. Students will be trained to understand the production, buying, and retail aspects of wholesale selling and management of goods and services inclusive of the selection, purchase, and distribution of products to various market channels, along with the coordination and planning of sales and promotions. Merchandise Marketing students will also be taught to analyze and interpret business, economic and consumer trends with real-world applicability.
