PROGRAMS
The undergraduate pre-licensure program is a four-year program leading to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN). Professional nurses provide care for patients of diverse and multicultural backgrounds, and should represent those backgrounds. Applicants with evidence of intellectual ability, maturity, motivation, ability to interact with diverse populations, dedication to human concerns, ability to independently learn, and ability to perform functions required in the practice of nursing will be successful in this program. Graduates are eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
The BEACON program is an accelerated nursing program leading to a BSN and graduate credits, for those with a bachelor's degree in a field other than nursing. The goal of Beacon is to prepare nurses to improve health among underserved populations and develop leaders in the nursing profession.
The RN/BSN Program offered through WSU includes online or classroom options for registered nurses to earn a baccalaureate degree in nursing.
1. The distance classroom option is offered one day per week by teleconferencing on the WSU main campus with several outreach campuses. The program is scheduled for the same day each week throughout the program of study to accommodate work schedules.
2. The online instruction option offers registered nurses the opportunity to compete the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree via an innovative Web-based instructional program. Nursing courses can be accessed any time or any place with the aid of a computer and internet access.
The College of Nursing and Health offers a graduate program leading to a Master of Science degree with a major in nursing and a dual degree program leading to a Master of Science in administration of nursing and health care systems and a Master of Business Administration. The graduate program prepares nurses for advanced leadership roles in practice and administration, as well as for doctoral study in nursing. The curriculum offers students the opportunity to individualize the nursing major by selecting from areas of clinical specialization and roles (clinical specialist, clinical nurse leader, nurse practitioner, nurse administrator, or school nurse). The programs accommodate both full-time and part-time students, with most classes offered in the late afternoon and evening. The sequence of course offerings is flexible.
